Classic Rutherglen Muscat
Wine
Stanton & Killeen Classic Rutherglen Muscat is made with Muscat grapes that undergo extended ripening on the vine. They are picked at high levels of natural grape sugars.
The fruit is crushed and kept on skins until fermentation begins. It is then pressed and fortified with a grape spirit. Early fortification preserves the natural sugars while the short ferment builds flavour.
The wine is then stored in large oak casks for 3-4 years before it is assessed. Parcels that show 'Classic' potential are aged for several years further until they are ready to enter Stanton & Killeen's modified Solera system.
As part of the Solera system, younger parcels of wine are carefully blended with older parcels. The final wine has an average age of 12 years.
A dark caramel colour, Stanton & Killeen Classic Rutherglen Muscat is balanced and complex with rich dried fruit flavours and a long but not overly sweet finish.
Having completed its ageing in barrel, the wine is best within a year of release.
